Mosquitoes
There are about 3,500 species for mosquitoes in world. Mosquitoes are vectors of many different types of diseases with include yellow fever, malaria, West Nile virus, dengue fever, zika, and many others. Mosquitoes cause more than 700,000 deaths per year which is more than any other animal taxon. We have a high number of mosquitoes in the Coachella Valley due to all the watering we have on a regular basis to keep our vegetation green since we are in the dry desert. The golf courses, golf course lakes, the agricultural we have in the Coachella Vally are a big part of why the mosquitoes can continue to survive in high numbers in the Coachella Valley.
